I visit zoos and animal parks, but The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado is something different. The sanctuary specializes in rescuing and caring for large predators, such as bears, tigers, and lions. The animal residents have largely been ill-treated, and generally in danger prior to becoming residents of the Wild Animal Sanctuary.
Top Tip: visit early in the day or in spring or fall to get the animals during their most active times. My visit in June came with 90 deg temperatures and lots of animals dozing in the shade.
Top Tip 2: bring a camera with lots of reach! The walkway is no less than 30 feet in the air, and the animal habitats are large. I had my 400mm lens with me to get the shots below.

But wait, there’s more!
If you liked these shots, please check out one of my other posts, such as the Denver Zoo!
